Dmitri Cordova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (ChEMS) at Michigan State University.
Dmitri (“Dem”) was born and raised in the Philippines and has always been interested in science. His first impactful experience with science came as a student at the Philippine Science High School – Main Campus (PSHS-MC), where he conducted microbiology research. He went on to earn a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM). After a three-year stint as an instructor at UPM, he moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue graduate studies.
He earned his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry in 2020 from the University of Oregon, where he worked in David C. Johnson’s lab doign research on the synthesis thin films of superlattices of two-dimensional (2D) materials. From 2020 to 2025, he was a postdoctoral researcher in Maxx Q. Arguilla’s lab at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where he studied one-dimensional (1D) and helical van der Waals solids as part of UCI MRSEC CCAM.
